Mr. Trent:
Hello? Doctor Balis?
Dr. Balis:
Hello. This is he.
Mr. Trent:
Hey there, Doc! It's Jesse Trent.
Dr. Balis:
Jesse? How are you?
Mr. Trent:
Well, about nine months late for our last appointment.
Dr. Balis:
Hmm.
Mr. Trent:
I'm doing okay, but I think I really need to start my sessions again.
Dr. Balis:
That would be fine. We can schedule an appointment for you...
Mr. Trent:
That would be great. But I have a question, Doctor. Maddie wants to start seeing you as well. Will that be possible?
Dr. Balis:
Do you mean together, Jesse?
Mr. Trent:
Well, separately, if possible. We tried the separate doctor thing, and because we were getting different kinds of advice, it really started to mess things up. Then we tried just dealing with our lives without any help. That went okay for a while, but things are getting very stressful again.
Dr. Balis:
Jesse, I don't believe that it would be a good...
Mr. Trent:
Doctor, I've seen a number of psychiatrists now. There were the ones Maddie and I saw and then those at the women's center. I haven't found anyone I feel as comfortable with as I do with you.
Dr. Balis:
Thank you, but...
Mr. Trent:
It's really important to me--Maddie and the baby...I need your help. And I think Maddie needs you, too. Please, Doc, don't say no. We really need you.
Dr. Balis:
Hmm. If I agree to see both of you, there has got to be an understanding that I can't disclose what either of you say to the other. I will treat you as separate patients, and my advice is going to be what I think best for each of you as individuals, not necessarily for what might be best for your relationship.
Mr. Trent:
Whatever it takes, Doctor. It's not a problem. And Maddie and I figured that was how it was going to be. We are both willing to accept that. Oh, we had a baby girl on May 14th, and she is mine! That's the good news.
Dr. Balis:
Oh, that's great! Congratulations, Jesse!
Mr. Trent:
Thanks, Doc. It's about the best thing to have ever happened to us. I'll tell you more when I come in to the office. I know you are busy, and I don't want to yap your ear off about my precious princess just yet!
Dr. Balis:
That sounds fine, Jesse. Let's set up an appointment. Do mornings work for you?
Mr. Trent:
Yes, that's okay.
Dr. Balis:
How about Mondays at ten in the morning?
Mr. Trent:
That's fine.
Dr. Balis:
Good. Then I'll see you next week, Jesse.
Mr. Trent:
Thanks, Doc. See you then. Bye!
Dr. Balis:
Goodbye.
